Clothing

No 1.  Top Tip

Avoiding really busy patterns, along with character pictures and large brand logos is my number one tip. Too many patterns can drive the attention away from faces and become very distracting. Characters and brands can become outdated and prevent your photographs from staying timeless.

Background

Colour Palette

The biggest question here is if you would like a light or a dark background? have a think about where you will be displaying these images and what will work best in that room.

Then match the clothing colour palette with the best backdrop.

This can be decided on the day of your photoshoot.

Please see a few background options below.

Colour Palette

Think about where you may be displaying these images and the colour palette within that room, then we have an idea of what palette to choose for your photo-shoot. If you are worried about future redecorating then I would suggest a versatile colour like black, it can be paired with almost any other color, creating a sophisticated and timeless look. White is another colour that can be paired with a wide range of other colours.

How to prep the Kids

Bribe them

I'm sorry to say it but it works a treat! Having a chat with your child prior, make sure they are aware its going to take a while and be more than 1 picture.

Explain they are going to be a model for the day and its going to be great to get some pictures of them etc, let them help choose their clothing as this can help them get excited. If your children are like mine and just dislike having pictures taken then its just got to be a bribe, a sweet, a book or a trip to billy bobs afterwards.

LIGHT GREY

BACKGROUND

I love the light Grey background for younger children & families, It works so well with light, pale, soft clothing.

Whites, navy/denim, sage, grey's, dusty pinks, brown & beige all work great.

DARK GREY

BACKGROUND

The Dark grey background is my most requested background. It works with so many different clothing palettes which makes it so versatile and easy to work with, not to mention it looks amazing and really makes the object stand out. If you are struggling with what to wear the Dark grey is a safe choice to making anything work.

BEIGE & BROWN

BACKGROUND

I have a range of beige and brown backgrounds, I absolutely love them and they are becoming a very popular choice, they look great with creams and beige clothing. The lighter ones also work wonderfully with dusty pinks and greens and the Darker Browns are perfect for Autumn Colours

GREEN

BACKGROUND

The green backgrounds really do compliment the fine art styled portraits, they make the photograph look that little bit more unique. Earthy tones for clothing work great here, as you can see the green on green looks stunning.
